DESIGN FROM ALL
LINKING DESIGN AND SOCIAL INCLUSION
Anffas Ortona in Abruzzo, Italy, has been a pioneer in having started, since 2007 in collaboration with the university ISIA Roma Design and with the Turtlefly Project of Designer Leda Urbanucci, a project called DESIGN FROM ALL that aims to contribute to the social inclusion of young people in situations of hardship and disability through a path of enhancement of creative skills applied to the production of design objects.
OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The project aims to contribute to the socio-occupational inclusion of people with fewer opportunities, the aim was to affirm a different image of people with intellectual disabilities as able subjects to work in a context of normality, productivity, and responsibility according to their own specificities.
PRODUCING INNOVATION: Design From All is a “research in action project” which aims to create an innovative model to create and develop the new skills to be offered to No Profit Organisations that perform paths to social inclusion of people with disabilities or people who live a temporary discomfort (communities on journeys of recovery) enhancing their skills in terms of artists and creators, thanks to Anffas’ paper laboratory. It helped us to have a functional space of work and the primary material to work with.
